Community Engagement

Students who major in Sociology and Criminology have the opportunity to do community-engaged work as part of their coursework. Engaging with projects related to food insecurity, organizing clothing for those who need interview attire, helping youth gain entrepreneurial skills, tutoring incarcerated youth, and more, our students directly apply what they have learned in the classroom to help the local community.

Debate

Our purpose is to participate in debates to better our understanding of speech, argumentation and the world. The Debate Union shall engage in debates throughout the year to inform and entertain the Capital campus. We will also bring in relevant speakers to speak on current and debate-worthy issues to members of the Union and the campus as a whole. This portion of the Debate Union will focus on college debaters finding, engaging, educating, and cultivating their peers into debaters on a more personal level than our Ludlum-Forum competition debate counterpart.

Film and Media Production

If you're excited about making video or film, you should consider our program in Film and Media Production, which prepares students like you for careers in video production, media, and the creative industries.  With specific career-focused courses and a liberal arts background, you will acquire the skills and knowledge to effectively convey your message or tell your story.  During your time at Capital, you will work on real-world media projects to prepare you for a future in your chosen career.  Capital's close proximity to state government, multi-national businesses, media companies, and nonprofit organizations offers our students opportunities to gain professional experience.

PRSSA

Capital University hosts a student chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The student chapter meets frequently to host professional speakers, plan chapter activities, and help local businesses and organizations solve public relations problems through a student-run public relations firm. Capital PRSSA is one of six student chapters connected with the Central Ohio Chapter of PRSSA, which serves more than 350 professional members. Nationally, PRSSA is made up of more than 10,000 students and is the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and related fields.
